You should start
using the patch after your last cigarette.
Peel off the backing and apply the patch to a dry and hairless part
of the body such as the upper arms, shoulder or trunk. Press the patch
firmly for a few seconds to ensure that it sticks. One patch should
be applied when you get up.
The sites should be used in rotation - don't stick a new patch on the
same spot as the previous one.
The patch contains nicotine, which is absorbed into the blood stream
through your skin.
Peak levels of nicotine are reached 4-6 hours after applying the
patch, which then continually releases nicotine into your system
during the day. The patch provides about a half of the average smoking
levels of nicotine. This is enough to be of substantial help in reducing
or removing the urge to smoke and withdrawal
symptoms.

It is advisable,
but not essential, to avoid contact with water when wearing the patch.
To dispose of patches after removal, fold them in half with the adhesive
side innermost and place inside an open sachet and throw away out of
the reach of children or animals.
Nicotine patches should be used fully for 12 weeks after stopping
smoking and then can be stopped. There is no need to gradually decrease
the dose.
